Royal Melbourne Golf Club, at Black Rock on Melbourne's sand belt, is regularly ranked among the finest golf courses in the world. The club has two full 18-hole courses: the West Course, designed by Dr Alister MacKenzie and opened in 1931, and the East Course, designed by Alex Russell and opened in 1932 - 36 holes in total.
For major tournaments, a Composite Course combining 12 holes from the West Course with six from the East has been used since 1959, including for the Presidents Cup, the World Cup of Golf and multiple Australian Opens.
